A high school student in Lincoln Heights has proven that he is among some of the smartest in the world.

On Tuesday, CBS2’s Jasmine Viel spoke with Lincoln High School senior Cedric Argueta about his experience taking one of the most difficult college-level tests.

Argueta explained he received a letter last week informing him that he received a perfect score on his Advanced Placement Calculus exam.

“That’s when I found out that I was one of 12 out of 300,000 in the world to get a perfect score on this exam,” he said. “There were some challenging questions, but nothing that I couldn’t do.”

According to Argueta’s math teacher, the majority of students who attend the school come from low-income homes. Twenty-percent of the teenagers are English language learners.

The diversity of his classmates has not prevented the young genius from continuing his studies. In fact, he is currently taking four AP courses this year, including the next level of calculus.

Argueta also earned perfect scores on the English and math sections of the ACT college entrance exam.

The aspiring rocket scientist says he plans to apply to California Institute of Technology, University of California, Berkeley and Stanford University with hopes of one day working for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
